Antonio Pinto, aged 22, opened a motorcycle workshop in 1981. This was the foundation of AJP, started in 1981 and named after him and his brother Jorge. The creation of its first motorcycle, in 1987 was the Ariana 125 named after Antonio’s daughter. Forward to 1995 and the creation of a prototype called AJP Galp 50 – In 2000 a new project was started - The AJP PR4 – a four-stroke 125cc motorcycle built to a very high and powered by an imported engine and with this came success for AJP. After this came the AJP PR4 400cc and export to the UK, France and Germany, followed by the AJP PR4 200cc and 2 new projects: the AJP PR5 250 and the AJP PR3 200. The PR3 weighs in at only 89kg and has a ranking as the lightest four-stroke 200cc enduro in the world! AJP is quite different from the rest of the motorcycle manufacturers in that Antonio himself hand checks every bike that leaves his factory.
